Before you book anywhere
Many places use the word “sanctuary”. These five checks help you choose well, on our site or anywhere else.
01Riding on the menu? Walk away. It hurts elephants.02Baby elephants to touch? Calves should stay with their mothers, not with visitors.03Huge groups? Big crowds stress elephants. Look for small, fixed group sizes.04Chains in the day? Ask where the elephants sleep and how they move.05No vet named? A real sanctuary can tell you who looks after the elephants.

Who we are
I have lived in Thailand for about 11 years. I move between Chiang Mai and Phuket with the seasons.
I love wildlife, elephants and nature. Over the years I have visited almost every elephant sanctuary in Thailand.
I made this site to share what I learned. I hope it helps you choose a day that is kind to the elephants and lovely for you.

We aim to reply within 24 hours. Your details go only to us and the sanctuary you choose.
Do I pay anything now?
No. An enquiry is free. We check the date and the price with the sanctuary and send them to you. You pay only if you decide to book.
Can I touch or feed the elephants?
Observation-tier sanctuaries are hands-off: visitors only watch. No-riding-tier sanctuaries may allow feeding over a barrier. Some sanctuaries offer bathing. Each listing says so clearly.
Are children welcome?
Each listing shows the child price and any age rules. Rules differ between sanctuaries.
Who writes the scores?
We score each sanctuary with our 100-point method. We check documents and visit before we publish a score. Every sanctuary can see its score and reply.
Do you list places with riding?
No. Any riding or shows means we do not list the sanctuary.
